Roots in Sewer Lines: What Jetting Can and Cannot Fix
How root intrusion forms, when hydro jetting clears it, and when the pipe needs structural repair.
How roots enter the pipe
Roots follow moisture through joints and small openings in clay or cast iron laterals. Once inside, they catch debris and grow until flow stops.
Jetting vs repair
Hydro jetting with a root-cutting nozzle can clear roots from a sound pipe. If joints are separated or the pipe is corroded, roots return unless the structural problem is addressed.
Camera inspection after jetting shows whether lining or spot repair is the durable fix.
